Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 4 pieces boneless pork chops Substitutable with chicken breasts or turkey cutlets.
  • 1 large onion, sliced very thin
  • 1 medium Honeycrisp apple, thin slices Can substitute with other firm apples like Granny Smith or Fuji.

Seasoning and Sauce

  • Salt to taste Salt
  • Black pepper to taste Black pepper
  • ½ cup apple butter Substitutable with apple sauce mixed with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 tbsp whole grain mustard Can substitute with Dijon or yellow mustard.

Optional Garnishes

  • 1 sprig fresh rosemary Optional.
  • 3 pieces fresh sage leaves Optional.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Prep your workspace and gather all your ingredients.
  • Sprinkle each pork chop generously with salt and black pepper.
  • In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until translucent and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.

Cooking

  • Push onions to the side of the skillet. Add seasoned pork chops and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned.
  • In a small bowl, combine apple butter, whole grain mustard, and water. Mix until smooth, and pour over pork chops and onions.
  • Add thin apple slices around pork chops in the skillet.
  • Cover and simmer on low heat for about 15-20 minutes.
  • If using, add rosemary and sage in the last few minutes of cooking.
  • Check the internal temperature of pork chops; it should read at least 145°F (63°C).

Serving

  • Serve the pork chops drizzled with the sauce.

Notes

To store, place in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. Freeze for 2-3 months. Reheat in a skillet with a splash of water or broth for moisture.
