  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour Can be substituted with gluten-free flour mix.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Can be substituted with coconut oil or vegan butter.
  • 1 ½ cups sugar Sugar substitutes can be used for reduced sugar intake.
  • 1 large egg For vegan, use flaxseed meal mixed with water as a substitute.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • as needed Decorations (sprinkles, icing, etc.) Customize as desired.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Begin by gathering all your ingredients on a countertop.
  • In a bowl, measure out 2 3/4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder.
  • In a separate bowl, cream together 1 cup of softened unsalted butter and 1 1/2 cups of sugar until light and fluffy (about 3–5 minutes).
  • Beat in 1 egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  • Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture gradually, stirring until just combined.
  • Roll small portions of the dough into balls the size of a tablespoon.

Baking

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the dough balls on the sheet.
  • Lightly flatten each ball with your palm or the bottom of a glass.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 8-10 minutes.
  • Remove cookies and let them cool on a wire rack.
  • Decorate with sprinkles or icing once cooled.

Notes

Store in an airtight container. For longer storage, refrigerate them. To freeze, use a freezer-safe container.
