  • 1 lb ground beef (preferably 80/20 blend) Choose for flavor.
  • ¼ cup soy sauce Use tamari for gluten-free option.
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar Can substitute with honey or maple syrup.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil Can be substituted with olive or avocado oil.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes Adjust for spice preference.
  • 2 medium green onions, sliced For garnish.
  • 1 cup broccoli florets Optional, can substitute with any veggies.
  • 2 cups cooked rice Use white or brown.
  • sesame seeds For garnish, optional.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Prep your workspace and gather all your ingredients and equipment.
  • In a large skillet, heat over medium-high heat and add the ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  • Cook the ground beef for about 5 to 7 minutes until browned evenly.
  • Drain excess fat from the skillet.
  • Add minced garlic and grated ginger to the skillet and sauté for 2 minutes.
  • Pour in the soy sauce, brown sugar, and sesame oil, stirring to coat the beef.
  • Allow to simmer for 3 to 4 minutes.
  • If using, add broccoli (or other veggies) and cook for an additional 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Prepare your rice according to package instructions.
  • Serve cooked rice in bowls and top with the beef mixture.
  • Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days or freeze for up to three months. Reheat in the microwave or skillet.
