  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 6 strips bacon, diced
  • ½ medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 4 large eggs
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • to taste chopped green onions (optional, for garnish)
  • to taste diced tomatoes (optional, for garnish)

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients and tools: a large skillet, a mixing bowl, and an 8x8-inch baking dish.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cooking

  • Cook the diced bacon in the skillet over medium heat until crispy, then remove with a slotted spoon and set aside, keeping the grease.
  • Sauté the onion in the bacon grease until translucent, about 3-5 minutes, then add the garlic and sauté for an additional minute.
  • Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart as it cooks until browned. Drain excess grease.
  • Stir in the crispy bacon with the cooked beef and allow to cool slightly.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper.
  • Spread the beef and bacon mixture in the greased baking dish, layer 1 cup of shredded cheese over the meat, and pour the egg mixture on top. Finish with the remaining cheese.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before garnishing with green onions and tomatoes, if desired.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. For freezing, wrap tightly and store for up to 2-3 months. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for best results.
