Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • black food coloring (gel preferred)

Decorating Ingredients

  • 1 cup powdered sugar For decorating
  • 1 tablespoon milk For decorating

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until no flour streaks remain.
  • Add the black food coloring to the dough, mixing until you reach the desired darkness.
  • Roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness and cut into cat shapes.
  • Place the shapes on the lined baking sheets, leaving space for spreading.

Baking

  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are firm and centers are slightly soft.
  • Cool completely on the baking sheets before transferring to a wire rack.

Decoration

  • In a small bowl, mix powdered sugar with milk and adjust for desired consistency.
  • Decorate cooled cookies with icing, adding eyes and whiskers as desired.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container for up to 1 week at room temperature. They can be frozen for up to 3 months.
