Ingredients
  

Orange Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs room temperature
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • ¾ cup orange juice fresh
  • ½ cup milk
  • orange food coloring optional

Vanilla Cream Frosting

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream cold
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line cake pans.
  • Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add orange zest.
  • Alternate adding dry ingredients with orange juice and milk until just combined. Add food coloring if desired.
  • Divide batter evenly into pans and bake for 28–30 minutes. Cool completely.
  • Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Whip cream separately, then fold together.
  • Frost cooled cake layers and chill briefly before serving.

Notes

For extra creamsicle flavor, add a thin layer of orange curd between cake layers.
