Equipment

  • 9×13-inch baking pan
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Wooden spoon handle or straw for poking holes

Ingredients

Cake Base

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix plus ingredients required on box
  • 2 boxes instant chocolate pudding mix divided use (one in cake batter, one for filling)
  • ¾ cup sour cream
  • ¾ cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs lightly beaten
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract pure
  • ½ cup warm water
  • 26 Oreo cookies divided use

Filling & Topping

  • 2 cups whole milk for pudding filling
  • 8 ounces frozen whipped topping thawed (e.g., Cool Whip)
  • ¼ cup hot fudge sauce optional drizzle

Instructions

  • Pre-heat oven to 350 °F (about 175 °C). Grease a 9×13-inch pan.
  • In a large bowl, combine chocolate cake mix, one box of pudding mix, sour cream, oil, eggs, vanilla and warm water; beat 2 minutes until well combined. Chop 10 Oreos and fold into batter.
  • Spread batter into the prepared pan and bake for about 30-35 minutes, until top springs back when lightly touched and a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Remove cake from oven and let cool for 10 minutes. Use the handle of a wooden spoon or a large straw to poke holes all across the cake (about every inch or so).
  • In a medium bowl whisk together the remaining box of pudding mix and the milk for 2 minutes. Immediately pour pudding evenly over the cake, making sure the mixture seeps into the holes. Let the cake cool completely.
  • Fold 8 chopped Oreos into the whipped topping and spread this mixture evenly over the cake. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (or overnight) to allow flavors to meld.
  • Just before serving, coarsely chop the remaining 8 Oreos and sprinkle them on top of the cake. Drizzle hot fudge sauce if desired. Slice and serve.

Notes

Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The crushed Oreos on top may soften over time. Freezing is not recommended because the pudding layer can become soggy when thawed. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}
