  • 1 tablespoon butter For greasing the baking dish

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients.
  • Grease your baking dish thoroughly with butter.
  • Arrange the thick slices of French bread in the greased baking dish, overlapping slightly.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
  • Pour the custard mixture evenly over the arranged bread slices, ensuring each piece is submerged. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

Baking

  • The next morning, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Remove the cover from the dish and allow the bread to come back to room temperature while the oven heats.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  • Once baked, remove from oven and sprinkle an even layer of granulated sugar on top.
  • Using a kitchen torch, carefully caramelize the sugar until it melts and forms a crispy glaze.

Serving

  • Allow to cool slightly before serving to let the sugar harden.
  • Serve warm, optionally topped with whipped cream or fresh fruit.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat in the microwave or oven for the best texture.
