  • Knife

Ingredients

Patty Melt Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef preferably 80/20 for juiciness
  • 4 slices rye bread or substitute with sourdough or multigrain
  • 4 slices cheese Swiss or American preferred
  • 1 large onion yellow or sweet, thinly sliced
  • cup secret sauce mix of mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard
  • 4 tbsp butter for grilling
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare all ingredients: bring beef to room temperature, slice onions, and measure sauces.
  • Form beef into two patties, season with salt and pepper, and cook in a skillet over medium heat for 4–5 minutes per side.
  • In another pan, melt 1 tbsp butter and caramelize the onions over medium heat for 10–15 minutes until golden.
  • Spread secret sauce on one side of each bread slice. Layer a cooked patty, cheese, and caramelized onions on one slice.
  • Top with another bread slice, sauce side down. Butter the outer sides of the bread.
  • Grill the sandwich in a skillet over medium heat for 3–4 minutes per side, until golden brown and the cheese melts.
  • Let rest for 1 minute, slice diagonally, and serve hot with fries or salad.

Notes

For extra flavor, add bacon, mushrooms, or jalapeños. Use gluten-free bread or vegan cheese for dietary adjustments. Caramelize onions slowly for the best sweetness and depth.
