Ingredients

For the Glaze

  • 1 cup brown sugar You can substitute with coconut sugar for a lower glycemic index option.
  • ½ cup honey Can be replaced with maple syrup for a vegan option.
  • ¼ cup Dijon mustard For a different flavor, a mild barbecue sauce may be used.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves Adds depth to the glaze.
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar

For the Ham

  • 1 piece fully cooked ham Approximately 8-10 pounds.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by gathering all your ingredients.
  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).

Mixing the Glaze

  • In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, ground cloves, black pepper, and apple cider vinegar. Stir until you achieve a smooth mixture that looks thick and sticky.

Preparing the Ham

  • Place the fully cooked ham, cut side down, in a roasting pan.
  • Score the surface in a diamond pattern to allow the glaze to penetrate.
  • Brush a generous layer of the glaze over the surface of the ham.

Baking

  • Cover the ham loosely with foil and bake it for about 1 hour.
  • After an hour, remove the foil and baste the ham with the remaining glaze.
  • Return the ham to the oven and bake for an additional 30-45 minutes, basting every 15 minutes.
  • The ham is done when it’s heated through and caramelized, with an internal temperature of around 140°F (60°C).

Finishing Touch

  • Let the ham rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing to allow the juices to redistribute.

Notes

To store leftovers, allow to cool completely and place in an airtight container. Refrigerate for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
