Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour or use a gluten-free flour mix if needed
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup powdered sugar for finishing
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup buttermilk or substitute with plant-based milk if dairy-free

Instructions

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients on the countertop, premeasuring each one for efficiency.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease the loaf pan with butter or non-stick cooking spray.

Mixing

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In another bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, mixing just until combined.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  • Bake for about 50-60 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
  • Once baked, allow the loaf to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Finishing

  • Dust the cooled loaf generously with powdered sugar before slicing and serving.

Notes

For an extra touch, sprinkle cinnamon or nutmeg into the dry ingredients, or drizzle a simple glaze made from powdered sugar and milk over the top.
