  • Paper Towels

Ingredients

Main Mixture

  • 1 cup cooked mashed plantains
  • ½ cup cheese cotija or mozzarella
  • ½ cup cooked minced meat beef or chicken
  • ¼ cup chopped onions
  • ¼ cup chopped cilantro
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • In a large bowl, combine mashed plantains, cheese, minced meat, onions, cilantro, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until fully combined.
  • Shape the mixture into small uniform balls or flattened patties.
  • Heat 1–2 inches of oil in a frying pan over medium heat until hot enough for frying.
  • Fry patties for 3–5 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove and drain excess oil on paper towels.
  • Serve warm with garlic aioli, salsa, or chimichurri for dipping.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, replace minced meat with lentils or black beans. You can also bake the patties at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes instead of frying for a lighter version.
