  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour You can use gluten-free flour as an alternative.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened You can use coconut oil or a dairy-free butter alternative.
  • 0.75 cups granulated sugar Feel free to substitute with natural sweeteners like maple syrup.
  • 0.25 cups packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs For a vegan option, substitute with flaxseed meal or applesauce.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cups mashed ripe banana (about 2-3 bananas) Use ripe bananas for the best flavor.
  • 1 cups pumpkin puree Do not use pumpkin pie filling.

Optional Ingredients

  • 0.5 cups chopped walnuts or pecans Feel free to leave out or replace with seeds for nut allergies.

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients and tools: a large mixing bowl, a whisk, a measuring cup, and a 9x5 inch loaf pan. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking soda, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground cloves, and salt. Set aside.

Mixing the Batter

  • In another bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar for about 3-5 minutes until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time and then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Add mashed ripe banana and pumpkin puree; mix until just combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, gently folding until just combined. A few streaks of flour are acceptable.
  • If using, fold in chopped walnuts or pecans.

Baking

  • Grease and flour your loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading evenly.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 55-70 minutes, checking for doneness with a skewer inserted into the center.
  • Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, serve warm with butter or cream cheese. You can drizzle with maple syrup or enjoy with chai tea or apple cider.
