  • 4 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith or Fuji) Choose firm varieties.
  • 2 cups granulated sugar Forms the candy coating.
  • 1 cup water Helps dissolve the sugar.
  • ½ cup light corn syrup Adds shine and prevents crystallization.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For flavor boost.
  • 1 each food coloring (red, yellow, blue, green, purple) Makes apples colorful.

Preparation

  • Wash and dry the apples thoroughly to remove any wax.
  • Insert wooden sticks into the tops of each apple.

Cooking

  • In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, water, and corn syrup. Heat over medium until sugar dissolves.
  • Increase heat to high and cook until the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).

Dipping

  • Remove syrup from heat and divide into bowls for colorful dipping.
  • Add food coloring to each bowl and stir to combine.
  • Dip each apple into one colored syrup ensuring it's fully coated.

Cooling

  • Place dipped apples on a greased surface to cool completely.
  • While syrup is soft, sprinkle additional toppings if desired.

Serving

  • Once hardened, serve the Rainbow Candy Apples as a fun treat.

Notes

Store in a cool, dry area covered loosely with wax paper. Avoid freezing to maintain texture.
