Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 head green cabbage
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Can substitute with avocado or grapeseed oil.
  • to taste Salt Skip or substitute for herbs if salt-free.
  • to taste Pepper
  • Optional: garlic powder, paprika, or other preferred seasonings

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Remove any wilted or discolored outer leaves from the head of cabbage. Rinse the cabbage under cold water to clean it, then pat it dry thoroughly.

Slicing

  • Slice the cabbage into thick steaks, approximately 1-inch in thickness, keeping the core intact.

Arrangement

  • Place the cabbage steaks flat on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, ensuring they are spaced for even roasting.

Seasoning

  • Drizzle olive oil over the cabbage steaks, ensuring each is coated evenly, then sprinkle with salt, pepper, and any additional seasonings.

Roasting

  • Put the baking sheet in the preheated oven. Roast for about 25-30 minutes, turning halfway through.

Checking Doneness

  • Cabbage steaks should be tender yet hold their shape. For crispier texture, leave them in for an additional 5 minutes, watching closely to avoid burning.

Serving

  • Carefully remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the cabbage steaks to cool for a minute before serving.
  • Transfer the Roasted Cabbage Steaks to a serving platter, garnishing with additional spices, herbs, or grated cheese if desired.

Notes

Roasted Cabbage Steaks are perfect for various occasions. Pair them with proteins like grilled chicken or tofu, and serve with grains or salads. For storage, place cooled leftovers in an airtight container; they'll last 3-5 days in the fridge.
