  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour if needed.
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2.25 teaspoons active dry yeast Can substitute with instant yeast.
  • 1.5 cups warm water Should be around 110°F to activate yeast.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Topping Ingredients

  • 1 pound Italian sausage May substitute with plant-based sausage.
  • 1 medium red onion Chopped.
  • 4 cloves garlic Minced.
  • 6 ounces feta cheese Can use goat cheese or mozzarella as a substitute.
  • 0.25 cup honey Adjust according to taste.
  • 0.25 cup olive oil For sautéing and drizzling.
  • 0.25 cup fresh basil leaves Chopped.
  • 0.25 teaspoon red pepper flakes Adjust to taste.
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients before you start cooking.
  • In a large mixing bowl, measure out the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  • In a smaller bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water and let it rest for about five minutes until frothy.
  • Mix in the olive oil and then combine with the dry ingredients.
  • Turn the dough onto a lightly floured countertop and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Shape into a ball, place in a lightly oiled bowl, and cover with a kitchen towel.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm area for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  • Preheat your oven to 475°F.

Cooking

  • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the Italian sausage, breaking it into small pieces. Drain the excess fat.
  • In the same skillet, sauté the chopped red onion and minced garlic until soft.
  • Punch down the risen dough and roll it out to your desired shape and thickness.
  • Spread the cooked sausage over the pizza base, followed by the sautéed onions and garlic.
  • Crumble the feta cheese over the top and drizzle honey across.
  • Top with fresh basil leaves and red pepper flakes.
  • Bake the pizza for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven for best results.
