Ingredients
  

For the base

  • 1 bag Doritos
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey Can substitute with chicken or plant-based alternatives.
  • 1 packet taco seasoning Follow instructions on the packet.
  • 2 cups lettuce, chopped Use your preferred type of lettuce.
  • 1 cup tomatoes, diced
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded For a dairy-free option, use dairy-free cheese.
  • ½ cup sour cream Use vegan sour cream if dairy-free.
  • ½ cup salsa
  • ½ cup black beans (optional) Can substitute with kidney beans.
  • 1 whole avocado, diced (optional)

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients. Chop the lettuce and dice the tomatoes and avocado if using.

Cooking the Base

  • In a skillet set over medium heat, add the ground beef or turkey. Cook until browned, about 7–10 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  • Add taco seasoning and water according to the packet instructions. Stir and simmer until thickened, approximately 5 minutes.

Assembling the Salad

  • In a large bowl, combine chopped lettuce, diced tomatoes, cheddar cheese, and optional black beans.
  • Pour the seasoned meat over the salad base.
  • Crush the Doritos and sprinkle on top.
  • Add dollops of sour cream and salsa.
  • Top with diced avocado if using.
  • Serve immediately while the meat is warm and the Doritos are crunchy.

Notes

For best results, store the salad and Doritos separately if you have leftovers to maintain the crunch.
