  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar Can substitute with honey or maple syrup.
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast Can be substituted with active dry yeast.
  • 1.5 cups warm water Water should be slightly above body temperature.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Can be substituted with coconut oil for a vegan option.

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients and measure them precisely.
  • In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Stir until evenly incorporated.
  • Gradually warm the water until it's just above body temperature. Add the warm water and olive oil to your dry ingredients and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl. Cover it with a clean cloth or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  • Once risen, gently punch down the dough to release any air bubbles.
  • Transfer the dough back onto a floured surface. Shape it into a loaf by flattening it and rolling it tightly. Pinch the seams to seal.
  • Place the formed loaf into a greased bread pan. Cover it again and let it rise until doubled, approximately 30 minutes.
  • While the dough rises for the second time, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Once the dough has risen, place the bread pan in the preheated oven. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Notes

Allow the loaf to cool completely before wrapping to maintain freshness. For long-term storage, slice and freeze individual pieces.
