  • 2 cups milk any type of milk, dairy or plant-based
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp black tea leaves
  • 2 tbsp sugar adjust to taste
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • ¼ tsp ground cardamom
  • ¼ tsp ground cloves
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • whipped cream optional, for topping

Instructions
 

  • Gather all ingredients to ensure a smooth preparation process.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine milk and water over medium heat. Stir occasionally to prevent scorching.
  • Once warm, add black tea leaves and stir to infuse the flavor into the milk-water mixture.
  • Add sugar and stir until completely dissolved.
  • Mix in cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.
  • Simmer gently for 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend. Do not boil.
  • Remove from heat and strain the mixture into mugs using a fine mesh strainer.
  • Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg if desired.
  • Serve hot and enjoy the cozy aroma and warmth.

Notes

Customize your chai by adjusting sweetness or spice levels. For a vegan version, use oat or almond milk and substitute sugar with agave or maple syrup.
