Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients to make the process smoother.
  • Measure out the flour, baking powder, and salt in one bowl, and cream the butter and sugar in another.

Mixing

  • Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, typically around 3-4 minutes.
  • Incorporate the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract and almond extract if included.

Dough Preparation

  • Gradually fold the dry mixture into the wet mixture until you create a thick, cohesive dough.
  • Divide the dough into equal portions and add different pastel gel food coloring to each portion.
  • Chill the dough portions in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Baking

  • Roll tablespoon-sized balls of the chilled dough in powdered sugar until fully coated.
  • Place the dough balls 2 inches apart on a lined baking sheet.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 10-12 minutes or until the tops have cracked and the edges are set.

Cooling
