  • 2 cups chopped dates
  • 2 cups peeled and chopped apples
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Can be substituted with gluten-free flour.
  • 1 cup brown sugar You can use a sugar substitute if desired.
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted Coconut oil can be used for a dairy-free option.
  • 2 large eggs Can be replaced with flaxseed meal or applesauce for vegan.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • to taste Hot caramel sauce for topping

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients and prepare by peeling and chopping the apples and chopping the dates.
  • In a bowl, combine the chopped dates and apples until well mixed.
  • In another bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  • Gently fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined, then fold in the apple and date mixture.
  • Grease a baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  • Pour the batter into the greased baking dish, spreading evenly.

Baking

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 30-35 minutes until set and a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving.
  • Serve warm, drizzled with hot caramel sauce.

Notes

Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a delightful balance. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
