  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries (sliced)
  • Butter (for greasing the casserole dish)

Preparation

  • Begin by cubing the French bread into bite-sized pieces and place evenly in a greased casserole dish.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until smooth.
  • Pour the custard mixture over the cubed bread and gently press down to ensure absorption. Top with sliced strawberries.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, preferably overnight.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Remove the plastic wrap and let it come to room temperature for 10 minutes.
  • Bake the casserole for approximately 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

Serving

  • Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving warm, drizzled with maple syrup and powdered sugar.
