Preparation

  • Start by gathering all the ingredients. Wash and peel the yams, ensuring they are free from any blemishes.
  • Chop the peeled yams into bite-sized pieces, making them easier to cook and mash.
  • Bring a pot of salted water to a boil, then add the yams. Cook them until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  • Once the yams are cooked to a soft consistency, carefully drain the water, ensuring no splashes.
  • Return the drained yams to the pot. Add butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract.
  • Use a potato masher or a handheld mixer to mash everything together until smooth and creamy.

Baking

  • Grease a baking dish or casserole with a little butter. Pour the yam mixture into the prepared dish and level it out.
  • Sprinkle the mini marshmallows generously over the top of the yam mixture.
  • Place the baking dish in the oven at 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 25-30 minutes until the marshmallows puff up and turn golden brown.
  • Remove the dish from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving warm.
