Ingredients
  

For the apple filling

  • 4 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • ½ cup sugar Adjust based on sweetness preference
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice To enhance flavor

For the pastry

  • 1 sheet store-bought puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg beaten, for egg wash
  • 1 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces To enhance richness
  • 2 tablespoons caramel Optional, for garnishing
  • Vanilla bean ice cream optional, for garnishing
  • Brown sugar for sprinkling, optional To enhance caramelization

Preparation

  • Begin by peeling, coring, and slicing your apples for uniform cooking.

Fill the Pastry

  • In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry.
  • Transfer the rolled-out pastry to a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Layer the apple mixture onto the puff pastry, leaving a 1-inch border.
  • Fold the edges of the pastry over the apple filling, crimping as necessary.

Baking

  • Brush the folded crust with the beaten egg and dot the top with pieces of butter.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 20-25 minutes until the pastry is puffed and golden.
  • Once done, let the galette cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Store in the fridge for up to 3 days. Can be frozen for up to 3 months. Gently reheat in the oven for best results.
