Ingredients

Main ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour Extra flour for dusting.
  • 1 packet active dry yeast Make sure yeast is fresh.
  • ¼ cup sugar Can be substituted with honey.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk Can use almond or oat milk as a dairy-free option.
  • ¼ cup butter, melted
  • 1 large egg Or substitute with flaxseed meal or applesauce.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by gathering all your ingredients. This will help streamline the process.
  • In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Stir lightly and allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • Add melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix everything well until combined.
  • Gradually add flour, one cup at a time. Stir until a sticky dough forms.
  • On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about an hour.
  • Punch down the dough gently, divide into smaller pieces, and shape each into a heart.

Baking

  • Place the shaped hearts on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and let rise again for about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the bread for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  • Allow the bread to cool slightly before serving warm with butter or jam.

Notes
