Instructions

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients and tools in one place. Ensure that the cookies are baked and cooled before icing.
  • If you haven’t yet made the base cookies, prepare your favorite cookie dough. Roll it out and cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters. Bake as directed, then allow to cool completely.

Icing Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of powdered sugar, 2 egg whites, and 2 teaspoons of water. Whip until the mixture is smooth and forms peaks, which may take about 5-7 minutes.
  • Divide the royal icing into separate bowls. Add food coloring to each bowl until you reach your desired shades. Mix well until the color is evenly distributed.
  • Carefully spoon the colored icing into piping bags. You can use a small funnel for precision. Make sure to tie the ends securely to avoid spills.

Decorating

  • Use the piping bags to outline and fill in shapes on the cookies. Get creative with designs, layering colors, and combining sprinkles for unique patterns.
  • While the icing is still wet, sprinkle colorful decorations on top for a festive and attractive look. This adds texture and visual appeal to your creations.
  • Place your decorated cookies on a cooling rack or plate. Allow them to dry completely; this typically takes about 1-2 hours to harden without smudging.

Notes

Store decorated cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Layer with parchment paper for freezing up to three months.
