Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, melt the butter completely, then mix in the granulated sugar and vanilla extract until creamy.
  • Crack the eggs into the mixture one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition.
  • In a separate bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
  • Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, being careful not to over-mix.
  • Gently fold in chocolate chips and any additional toppings.
  • Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out mostly clean.
  • Allow to cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before cutting into squares.

Serving

  • Serve the brownies plain or with toppings such as ice cream, whipped cream, or fresh berries.

Notes

For a deeper flavor, consider browning the butter before mixing. Try adding a sprinkle of sea salt on top before baking to enhance chocolate notes.
