Equipment

  • Mixing Bowls
  • Electric Mixer
  • Parchment Paper
  • Baking sheet

Ingredients

Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • pink food coloring
  • red food coloring

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix into the wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  • Divide the dough into three equal portions. Leave one plain, tint one pink, and the other red using food coloring.
  • Roll each dough portion into logs of equal length. Gently press together and twist to create a swirl pattern.
  • Wrap the swirled dough log in plastic wrap and chill for at least 45 minutes until firm.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice chilled dough into cookies and place on a lined baking sheet.
  • Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are just set but not browned. Cool on a wire rack.

Notes

For cleaner swirls, chill the dough thoroughly before slicing. These cookies can be made ahead and frozen before baking.
