Brownie Base Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter can substitute with coconut oil for a dairy-free version
  • 2 cups granulated sugar no special notes
  • 4 large eggs can substitute with flaxseed mixture for vegan version
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract no special notes
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour can substitute with gluten-free flour blend
  • 1 cup cocoa powder unsweetened variety recommended
  • ½ teaspoon salt no special notes
  • 1 cup M&M candies plus more for topping

Preparation

  • Gather all ingredients and preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.

Cooking the Base

  • Melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat, stirring gently to prevent browning. Remove from heat and stir in the granulated sugar.

Mixing Ingredients

  • Whisk in the eggs one at a time until well combined, then stir in the vanilla extract.

Combining Mixtures

  • In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture, mixing gently to avoid overmixing.
  • Fold in half of the M&M candies gently.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and top with remaining M&M candies. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Cooling

  • Let the brownies cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before cutting them into squares.

Notes

Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days. For longer storage, refrigerate them for up to a week or freeze for up to three months. Reheat gently to avoid toughening.
