Instructions

Preparation

  • Gather all the ingredients and measure out flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and butter. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Mixing the Batter

  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes). Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients while alternating with the milk.
  • Mix until smooth, being careful not to over-mix.

Baking

  • Grease or line baking pans with parchment paper. Pour the batter into the pans, smoothing the tops.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes. Test for doneness with a toothpick.
  • Allow to cool in the pans for at least 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Frosting and Decorating

  • Make frosting by mixing powdered sugar with milk and vanilla extract. Add food coloring if desired.
  • Frost the cooled treats and finish with sprinkles.
