Ingredients
  

Buttercream Frosting

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar sifted
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2–4 tbsp milk adjust for desired consistency
  • pinch of salt optional, enhances flavor

Instructions
 

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat softened butter on medium speed until creamy and smooth, about 2–3 minutes.
  • Gradually add sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low speed until incorporated.
  • Add vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons of milk, then beat on medium-high speed until light and fluffy, about 3–5 minutes. Add more milk if needed to reach desired consistency.
  • Taste and add a pinch of salt if desired. Use immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Notes

For a firmer frosting, chill briefly before spreading. Can be colored with food coloring for themed desserts.
