  • 6-8 leaves banana leaves (for wrapping) Gently heated to make pliable

Instructions

Preparation

  • Soak 2 cups of sticky rice in water overnight.
  • Cut 500g of pork into small pieces and season with salt, black pepper, minced garlic, and chopped onion in a bowl.
  • Gently heat the banana leaves to make them pliable and lay them out on a flat surface.

Assembly

  • On the banana leaves, spread a layer of sticky rice, about half the thickness of your finger.
  • Place a portion of the seasoned pork on top of the rice, then add another layer of sticky rice.
  • Carefully fold the banana leaves over the mixture, creating a secure package.

Cooking

  • Arrange the wrapped packages in a steamer and ensure there is enough space for steam to circulate.
  • Steam the wrapped Vietnamese New Year Dish for 2-3 hours until the rice is tender and the pork is thoroughly cooked.
  • Once cooked, carefully unwrap the banana leaves and serve warm.

Notes

Avoid overfilling the wraps to prevent messy packaging that may burst during steaming. For better flavor, consider marinating the pork in advance.
